Indian Actor’s Wedding Attracts A-listers and Politicians

Bollywood A-listers, politicians and big names from the southern film industry attended the wedding of Actor Ram Charan Teja, son of actor-turned-politician K. Chiranjeevi, to his long-time sweetheart Kamineni Upasana in a lavish ceremony near the capital city of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh on June 14.

Guests included Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan; actress Sridevi and her filmmaker husband Boney Kapoor; Rajinikanth and Ambareesh from Tollywood; and top personalities from Tamil, Telugu and Hindi cinema were also in attendance.

E.S.L. Narasimhan, governor of Andhra Pradesh; Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy; Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah; and a number of state ministers, members of parliament and leaders of various political parties also attended the wedding.

On the day of the wedding, Bachchan tweeted “Hyderabad! To attend wedding of dear friend Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan…back evening…Ram playing my role in remake of Zanjeer.”

Charan, well known in the Teluga film circles, is making his Bollywoold debut with the remake of Bachchan’s hit movie Zanjeer. In addition, his Zanjeer co-star Priyanka Chopra was unable to attend the wedding, but sent her well wishes via Twitter saying “Here’s wishing a very happy married life to my Zanjeer co-actor Ramcharan and his beautiful better half Upasana! Wish I cud have been there! Congratulations to my favourite Chiranjeevi sir!! Naach gaana full on in Hydrabad!!!”

Charan’s family is throwing a large-scale reception for about 7,000 guests Thursday evening at Hyderabad International Convention Centre with the guest list including Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Aamir Khan to name a few. On Friday, Charan will host a reception for fans, followed by lunch, according to media reports.

The actor, who was busy with wedding preparations, sent out a surprise tweet on the wedding day, “Will be entering into a new live in couple of hours. Really excited and need all your blessings. Love u all.” He told the media the couple only had four days to honeymoon and would stay in India, as he has to return to set and resume shooting.
