Komagata Maru - The Play

Bell Performing Arts Centre30 Nov '14 @ 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
  • Komagata Maru - The Play
The play is written by BC poet and playwright Ajmer Rode, directed by well known director Gurdip Bhullar and staged by his best team of actors.

The play has also been performed several times in Punjab by the leading drama director Kewal Dhaliwal and his team. Earlier this year the UBC's theatre department played parts of this play and the SFU published it on their website for public and students.

Guru Nanak Dev University got its second edition reprinted to teach it to its post graduate theatre students. Written in late Seventies the play has become somewhat like a classic in Canadian Punjabi literature.

This will be the last Canadian performance of the play this year. More info if found on the attached pamphlet (ticket info: 604-599-1110).

Today, communities across Canada have little knowledge of the role Indians played in World War I and the shared history with their Canadian counterparts. Lest we forget, IMFC plans to commemorate those that lost their lives on the Western Front. To mark the centennial of the landing of Indian Troops in France in September 1914 a series of upcoming free events is planned for this Fall
