  • Paramjit Kaur Is Returning Home: Jalandhar Woman 'Sold Off' In Saudi To Return Tomorrow

A Jalandhar woman who was sold off to a family in Saudi Arabia will return on Saturday, Union Minister Swaraj has said in a tweet.

Swaraj said in a tweet, “Paramjit Kaur is returning home tomorrow. I appreciate the efforts of Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia”.

Kaur, 31, from Bilga village, paid some agents Rs 50,000 for a job in Saudi Arabia. Instead, the agents sold her off for Rs 3 lakh in July. Once in the country, she was kept illegally confined.

Her husband, Malkiat Ram, and social activist Rajwinder Sharma had approached Sushma Swaraj, External Affairs Minister. An official at India’s Embassy in Riyadh told them that as per Saudi rules, an employer has to pay fee to hire people from abroad.

In Paramjit’s case, the Saudi family paid Rs 4 lakh to the government there.
