The Indian Air Force's Mirage 2000 fighter aircraft successfully landed at Yamuna Expressway near Mathura on Thursday as part of trials to use national highways for emergency landing. 
 
A stretch of the Agra-Lucknow expressway in Uttar Pradesh is set to become a road runway for combat jets of the Indian Air Force (IAF), a first for military aviation in the country. 
 
After the successful trial, the Indian Air Force issued statements briefing about the entire program. It said- "The IAF has been considering the use of national highways for emergency landing by fighter aircraft. This capability was demonstrated by IAF today by a Mirage-2000 aircraft which got airborne from one of the IAF bases in Central India. Operations wr conducted with active support from UP Govt, Yamuna Expressway Authority, 
 
Toll authorities of JP Infratech and Civil Police. The IAF has plans to activate more such stretches on highways in the future."
