'Shaandaar' Mints $2.1 Mn Abroad

Darpan News Desk IANS, 27 Oct, 2015 12:51 PM
Filmmaker Vikas Bahl's romantic comedy film “Shaandaar” starring Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt has received an overwhelming response in global markets. The film has collected $2.1 million during its opening weekend.

“Shaandaar”, which released on Thursday on the auspicious occasion of Dussehra, is doing well internationally. The film's opening weekend collection internationally is the highest for Shahid, read a statement.

The film collected $449,556 in the US and $258,519 in Britain. In Pakistan, where “Shaandaar” released on Sunday, the film did well as it collected $64,400.

Some of Shahid's other films which did well abroad during their run include “Haider” ($2.2 million), “Phata Poster Nikhla Hero” ($1.1 million) and “R... Rajkumar” ($1.5 million).

However, “Shaandaar”, which also stars Pankaj Kapur, Sanjay Kapoor and Sanah Kapoor, among others, didn't get a good response at the Indian box office as its collections dwindled over the weekend, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

“#Shaandaar Thursday Rs.13.10 crore (holiday), Friday Rs.7.55 crore, Saturday Rs.6.75 crore, Sunday Rs.6.11 crore. Total: Rs.33.51 crore. India biz. DISAPPOINTING,” Adarsh tweeted.

“#Shaandaar is a FIASCO. Biz continued to dwindle, with Saturday and Sunday offering no respite. The film has been rejected,” he added.
