5 Ways to Spend Valentine's Day in Vancouver

By Tarana Rana, Darpan, 26 Jan, 2015

It may be dubbed as the ‘Hallmark holiday’ but Valentine’s Day is about more than just that box of candy or roses. It’s the day to celebrate love in your life and there’s no better way to do that than by spending some quality time with your significant other. Not sure what to do? Here are 5 fun things couples can do on Valentine’s Day in Vancouver.

    Take a Local Wine Tour

You don’t need to drive to Okanagan to spend a laidback Valentine’s Day in a vineyard – just head out to Backyard Vineyards in Langley, for a wine tour and tasting. The 20 minute tour will show you everything from the vineyard to the production area to the tasting room, where you can sample some fine vintages. If you’re feeling peckish, their tasting room also has gourmet tasting platters for 2, which are designed to complement your wine perfectly.

    Go to Mink Chocolates Café

Chocolate is a Valentine’s Day staple but instead of giving your significant other that boring heart-shaped box, treat them instead to an afternoon – or evening – of chocolatey goodness at Mink Chocolates café at Vancouver or South Surrey. Cosy up over a traditional chocolate fondue, make S’mores at your table, or indulge in some of their heavenly drinking chocolate. End the date on the perfect sweet note by taking one or two of their handcrafted chocolate bars to go.

Jet off on a Float Plane

Looking to impress? Book a scenic tour with Seaair Seaplanes, and take to the skies for an exhilarating experience. The 45 minute long Coastal Mountains & Waterfall Experience tour is ideal for an adventurous couple. After departing from downtown Vancouver, you’ll soar along the Coast Mountain Range and glide through the stunning Indian Arm Fjord. You’ll also get a chance to capture the moment during the brief photo stop at a waterfall.

    Have Dinner at Dark Table

If you decide to go with the traditional ‘romantic dinner’ option on Valentine’s Day, make it an evening to remember by making reservations at Dark Table. At Vancouver’s only blind-dining restaurant, you and your dining partner will spend an evening in complete darkness. With no distractions around like cell phones (or light), you will experience a truly unique dinner experience – where you’ll just get to focus on the flavours of your gourmet food and the conversation of your dinner companion.

    Catch a VIP Movie

Revamp the classic movie-and-a-dinner date night by heading out to Coquitlam Silvercity Theatre for a VIP cinema experience. Sink into the large, comfy leather chairs and order dinner and drinks right from your seat before the movie starts. Their food menu is not the usual popcorn and nachos fare either – it has a variety of delicious options from flatbread, burgers and shrimp cocktail to cheesecake. You can also head out to the bar in the VIP lounge before or after the movie for some silver-screen inspired cocktails.
