Less is Beautiful

Minimalism is undoubtedly the ‘in-thing’, and it’s time to welcome this contemporary style in your home décor as well.

Keeping it simple and minimal can never go out of style, and the popular mantra of minimalism is now happily adopted by most in all aspects of their lives, including home décor. Less is more beautiful today, and a clean, clutterless décor is the newest trend on the block. Minimalist décor not only looks fresh and neat but if done right, it also helps your house look extraordinarily sophisticated and sleek.

So how does one incorporate the simple basics in a budget-friendly way? Well, worry not, we have a few handy décor tips that will help you embrace the minimalist trend with ease.

De-clutter

The key to nailing the minimalist décor is to get rid of all the clutter from your space. You can’t have a crowded space and think of having a minimalist style interior for your home. The first step is to start eliminating furniture and objects that aren’t essential. Break your rooms down to only what is necessary, keep in mind that every item in the room should serve some purpose so that you don’t end up cluttering the space again.

Add Textures

Enhance the look of your house by adding texture. Throw in some knitted bed covers, coloured fur pillows, and chandeliers. Again, don’t go overboard and keep it simple and neat. Wooden floorboards can further add an interesting texture to your minimalist décor.

Sleek Stylish Storage

Minimalist décor doesn’t necessarily mean you have no storage. It is obvious you would need a few things around to keep your home items in place. But avoid bulky pieces of furniture here. Invest in sleek, stylish storage that not only accommodates your belongings but also looks great in the rooms.

Light It Up

Your minimalist décor will not be complete if you don’t get the light right. Natural light is always the best; keep the windows big and bare and let the sunshine create some magic in your minimal space. If privacy is your concern, opt for curtains in thin fabric or use blinds. While investing in light fixtures, go for something contemporary and simple. Even bare light bulbs hung from the ceiling can look phenomenal.

Calming And Earthy Hues

Choosing the right colour palette for your home is essential. Light hues like white, beige, greys and pastels perfectly complement your minimalist setting. You can add some brightness to the room with a few earthy hues, however, don’t go overboard with it. Yellows and blues work perfectly to break the monotony of the neutral shades. Kitchen is an ideal space to add a spark of colour.

Strike A Balance

Lastly, the trick of nailing minimalist décor is to strike a balance between everything. There has to be a visual balance – never too much and never too little that the room looks strangely vacant. The furnishing shouldn’t be too big or too small, and the empty spaces should amplify the presence of your minimalist furniture. Less over more is what you need; think of splurging on quality over quantity as your goal. Maintain harmony in your space.

Tips to declutter your home

One room at a time

It’s easy to get overwhelmed once we start to organize and clean out everything that we feel we don’t need. Start with one room of the house at a time and divide it into what you’re keeping and what you’ll be getting rid of. After you’ve decided on what you’re keeping, then it will be much easier moving the pile of “junk” out of the room.

Ask yourself tough questions

How long has it been since I’ve used this? Do I even like it? Does it work properly or is it broken? If I keep this, what will I get rid of to make room for this? The answers to these questions will help you figure out what to keep and what to let go of.

Divide and conquer

Make six categories and divide the belongings accordingly – keep it in the room; put it away in another room; donate it; recycle it; trash it; and sell it. This will help the decluttering make sense and seem like less work.

Write it down

Sometimes when you write something down and you can physically see what it is that you need to accomplish, it makes completing the task much easier. Take a blank calendar and go through everything in the house that you would like to conquer. Once you have a list of the rooms and items that you want to sort out, take that calendar and start to pick days to complete the tasks on.
