  • DARPAN Extraordinary Achievement Awards 2026-An Evening of Extraordinary Stories, Community and Celebration

Held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the magnificent Aria Convention Centre in Surrey, the 16th Annual DARPAN Extraordinary Achievement Awards brought together community leaders, dignitaries, achievers, sponsors, partners and guests for an evening dedicated to recognizing remarkable accomplishments and celebrating South Asian excellence.

Hosted by Robin Gill, the gala opened with an energetic performance by Sunehri Arts Club, setting the tone for an evening filled with celebration, recognition and entertainment. The gathering also marked 16 years of the DARPAN Extraordinary Achievement Awards, a milestone that reflected the publication’s longstanding commitment to highlighting the people and stories making an impact in the community.

The evening welcomed a distinguished gathering of political leaders and public figures, including MP Randeep Sarai, Secretary of State for International Development; MP Parm Bains; MP Sukh Dhaliwal; MP Iqwinder Gaheer; Consul General of India Masakui Rungsung; provincial representatives MLA Jagrup Brar, MLA Raj Chouhan, MLA Bryan Tepper and MLA Rohini Arora; Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke; and several Surrey councillors. Former White Rock Mayor Megan Knight, former British Columbia Premier Christy Clark, Moe Sihota, the first South Asian Canadian elected to the provincial parliament, and Dr. Gulzar Cheema, the first Indian-born Canadian doctor elected to a legislative assembly in Canada, were also among those recognized from the stage.

A significant part of the evening was devoted to recognizing the individuals whose achievements and contributions continue to make a difference across a range of fields. Ten awards were presented, each highlighting a different form of excellence, leadership, creativity, service and perseverance.

Together, the ten recipients represented a wide spectrum of achievement-from the arts, sports and industry to community service, philanthropy, heritage and leadership. Bringing all ten honourees together on stage for a group photograph provided one of the evening’s defining moments as the audience applauded their accomplishments.

Beyond the awards, the evening offered plenty of entertainment and opportunities for guests to connect.

Following dinner, the atmosphere shifted into party mode with a live performance by Bunny Johal, whose distinctive voice, soulful lyrics and captivating style brought the evening to a high-energy close. After the band opened the entertainment segment, Bunny Johal took over the stage for a performance that capped the night with music and celebration.

As the 2026 DARPAN Extraordinary Achievement Awards came to a close, the evening had accomplished what the event has set out to do for 16 years: bring people together to recognize extraordinary stories, celebrate meaningful contributions and shine a light on individuals whose work continues to make an impact.

The 16th edition was not simply a night of awards. It was a celebration of achievement, community and the people whose journeys remind us of what is possible when talent, perseverance, vision and service come together.
