Shaw Launches Free Mobile TV App For Video Subscribers

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 06 Jan, 2016 12:42 PM
TORONTO — Shaw Communications Inc. has launched its FreeRange TV mobile streaming app, bringing the company in line with rivals in offering its full TV service to any subscriber with an Internet or mobile data connection.

The company says the new app is free for any of its 2.6 million existing cable TV and video subscribers.

While the company has launched limited mobile video apps before, this is the first to include all the channels in the customers' package as well as Shaw's on-demand content.

Shaw has already partnered with Rogers Communications on Shomi, a streaming app that includes a large library of movies and TV shows but does not include live channels.

On Dec. 16, Shaw announced that it was buying upstart wireless player Wind Mobile in a $1.6-billion deal, pending regulatory approval.
