Bollywood actor and Raj Kapoor’s son Rajiv Kapoor passed away on Tuesday morning in Mumbai after suffering a massive heart attack. He was 58.

Rajiv’s sister-in-law Neetu Kapoor confirmed the news via Instagram.

Lots of celebrities from the Bollywood film industry grieved the loss of Rajiv Kapoor. Singer Lata Mangeshkar shared her condolences via Twitter.

Actor Sanjay Dutt also expressed his sadness via Twitter.

Actor Sunny Deol shared his thoughts filled with a sense of mourning.

TV anchor Naved Jafri also expressed his condolences via Twitter.

He hailed from the legendary Kapoor family and was the son of Raj Kapoor and wife Krishna Kapoor. He was born on August 25, 1962. His debut film was Ek Jaan Hain Hum. He began being notices and talked about during his last directorial Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985). Some of his other well known films include Aasmaan (1984), Lover Boy (1985), Zabardast (1985) and Hum To Chale Pardes (1988). But soon Rajiv, also known by the nickname Chimpu, transitioned to film direction and production.

In 1996, Rajiv directed the much talked about film Prem Granth in which his brother Rishi Kapoor played the leading role and the reigning queen of Bollywood Madhuri Dixit was also seen alongside with his brother. In 1991 he produced Henna and also produced Aa Ab Laut Chalen in 1999. Rajiv took a hiatus from Bollywood after Aa Ab Laut Chalen, and it was only last year that his comeback to the movies was announced. His brother and popular actor Rishi Kapoor passed away last year.
