Ajay Devgn Shares First Look Of Next Period Film Based On Unsung Maratha Warrior, Tanaji

Darpan News Desk IANS, 20 Jul, 2017 01:37 PM
Actor Ajay Devgn is all set to play the role of Subedar Taanaji Malusare, a military leader in the army of Shivaji and also the founder of the Maratha Empire in 17th century India, in the upcoming period-action film titled "Taanaji - The Unsung Warrior".

Ajay on Wednesday shared the first poster of the upcoming film, which is directed by Om Raut. The look of the upcoming film shows Ajay in a Maratha warrior's avatar engaged in battle.

"He fought for his people, his soil and his king Chhatrapati Shivaji. The unsung warrior of glorious Indian history, Subedar Taanaji Malusare," Ajay captioned the poster.

Interestingly, Taanaji was quite close to Shivaji as they were childhood friends. Hailing from Malusare clan, Taanaji is known for the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670. Battle of Sinhagad in 1670. The legend has it that Shivaji Maharaj called for Taanaji to recapture the fortress of Kondana near Pune. The Maratha warrior was at the wedding of his son when he got Shivaji's order.

Therefore, soon Tanaji with his army scaled the fort. And that too with the help of domesticated monitor lizards which is called Gorpad in Marathi. Tanaji and his men then climbed the fort and recaptured the fort from Udaybhan Rathod, fort keeper of Jai Singh I.

Soon a fight took place between Taanaji and Udaybhan. In the combat, Taanaji was killed and Shivaji renamed the fort from Kondana to Sinhagad in his honour. Taanaji Malusare's historic legacy proves why he is called a great Maratha warrior.

The film is scheduled to release in 2019. Raut is best known for directing "Lokmanya: Ek Yug Purush".

On the work front, Ajay, who was last seen on the silver screen in "Shivaay" in 2016 has two more films in his kitty -- "Baadshaho" and "Golmaal Again".
