  • Akshay Kumar takes ice bucket challenge in chilly Cape Town
Bollywood's 'khiladi' Akshay Kumar, who entertains his fans with daredevilry in his films, undertook the ALS ice bucket challenge in the chilly environs of Cape Town where he's shooting for TV show "Dare 2 Dance".

Akshay took to Twitter to share the YouTube link of a video in which he is seen undertaking the challenge with eleven contestants of "Dare 2 Dance" throwing ice cold water on him in an open area.

Before taking the challenge, he is heard saying: "I am in Cape Town, the temperature here is 8 degrees. I am shooting here for 'Dare 2 Dance' and I have 11 contestants with me. My friend Riteish Deshmukh has dared me to take the ice bucket challenge and I'm ready."

The online campaign challenges people to either dump a bucket of ice water over their heads or donate to support research for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig's disease.

When a person accepts the ice bucket challenge, he or she must challenge another person to partake in the fundraising effort.

Akshay nominated his wife Twinkle Khanna, and friends Ashvini Yardi, Salman Khan and Johnny Lever to take the challenge which has gone viral throughout social media.

The actor was clad in only a t-shirt and a pair of jeans, while the "Dare 2 Dance" contestants seemed well clad and happy to throw buckets of ice water on the star.

"I am using sea water because I don't want fresh water to be wasted," said the actor.

The water left Akshay feeling the chill and he ran to get a towel from a crew member. But his effort was applauded.

"Dare 2 Dance" is a dance reality show in which Akshay plays the mentor. It is slated to go on air Sep 6 on Life OK.
