Amitabh Bachchan's 'Rebirth' Post 'Coolie' Accident

Darpan News Desk IANS, 02 Aug, 2015 01:15 PM
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has thanked everyone who prayed for him when he suffered a near fatal accident on this day 33 years ago on the set of “Coolie”. The accident was his “rebirth in (a) sense”.

The now 72-year-old was in a hospital here for almost two months.

“August 2nd 1982... I live after 'Coolie' accident... On returning home saw father in tears for first time ever. To all that give me prayers and wish... August 2nd my rebirth in sense... I fold my hands in gratitude,” Amitabh tweeted on Sunday.

He also tweeted a photograph in which he is touching the feet of his father-cum-late poet Harivanshrai Bachchan, who is seen with tears in his eyes.

While filming a fight sequence with co-star Puneet Issar on the set of Manmohan Desai’s "Coolie", Amitabh was supposed to fall on the table first and then on to the ground.

However due to a wrong judgement, Puneet ended up hitting Amitabh’s abdomen and he landed on the edge of the table due to which internal bleeding started.

Amitabh was rushed to a hospital and his surgery took place on August 2. Almost in a coma like situation, it took several months for him to recover.

After recovering, he resumed with the shooting of “Coolie”, which released in 1983.
