Asha Bhosle Impressed By Rahat Fateh Ali Khan

Darpan News Desk IANS, 05 May, 2016 01:34 PM
Legendary singer Asha Bhosle says she likes Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Javed Ali from the current lot of singers.

At the launch of her cover page for Society magazine on Thursday, Bhosle was asked about the singers she liked from the present generation.

"I like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and there is Javed Ali. He sings very well. I like his voice and his singing. They have learned singing, so there is everything in them," she said.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is known for his songs such as 'Mann Ki Lagan', 'Tere Mast Mast Do Nain' and 'Ajj Din Chadheya' among others.

Javed is popular for 'Jashn-E-Bahaara' and 'Arziyan' among other songs. Both singers have received numerous awards.

The 82-year-old Asha Bhosle has completed 72 years in the industry singing and holds the Guinness world for recording the most number of songs in music history. But she hasn't been singing much recently.

Asked about the current scene in the music industry, she said: "Today's songs... I wouldn't say all songs are bad but the lyrics aren't proper. If the songs are written well, then they are remembered.

"It's because of the lyrics that the songs click. It's only when they like the lyrics, do (people) sing them.

"Some sing for their love, some for their husbands... You don't find those lyrics now."

She added: "Music has also become mainly for dance. Very few of the good melodies are coming. It is a cycle, it will gradually go on changing, good singers and good music directors will also come."

Is she still open to singing in films?

"If the lyrics are good and the tune is good, then there should be no issue with singing. I have sung all kinds of songs, so there is nothing new," she said.

Asha Bhosle won the prestigious Padma Vibhushan in 2008.
