Ashutosh Gowariker Has Got Interesting Musical Sensibilities: A.R. Rahman

  • Ashutosh Gowariker Has Got Interesting Musical Sensibilities: A.R. Rahman
Music composer A.R. Rahman on Wednesday said that director Ashutosh Gowariker has got some interesting musical sensibilities in picking up right tunes and lyrics, leading to iconic songs in his films.

"Ashutosh Gowariker has got a lot of very interesting musical sensibilities and he loves the process of creating music. So with him, he picks up the right tunes, he picks up the right lyrics and picturises them with so much of passion. So it's always a pleasure working with Ashutosh. Some of the iconic songs I have done are in his movies. 'Yeh Jo Des' or 'Khwaja Mere Khwaja' and from 'Lagaan' songs like 'Chale Chalo' and 'Mitwa'."

"'Mohenjo Daro' is looking great, Hrithk (Roshan) is looking very nice. I wish the whole team great success," Rahman said at an event for the music platform Qyuki.

The Rahman-Gowariker combination has returned with "Mohenjo Daro" after their earlier collaborations "Lagaan", "Swades" and "Jodhaa Akbar" were widely appreciated. His films in between, "What's Your Raashee?" and "Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey", had Sohail Sen's music.

Rahman recently composed music for Brazilian footballer Pele's biopic and previously has composed music for an Iranian film along with music for Hollywood and South Indian films.

About how he managed to compose diverse tunes, he said, "Music is universal for me. I always keep saying, I know it is cliche but I believe in it from my heart."

"And that's one of the reasons I really pick up Brazilian or Iranian or Arabic or Chinese movies... no barriers, you have to respect the culture, delve into it and go deep into it," he added.

About his earlier days, he shared an interesting incident, "I think I was very lucky. When I did ads I wished whenever 10 of my ads come on national network, I'll quit ads. And one fine day, 10 ads came on national network, I said, 'Oh, I had to quit, what am I going to do' and next day Mani Ratnam came into my life. So if whatever you wish is a genuine wish, I think it comes true."

Rahman will also compose music for "99 Songs", "Sachin: A Billion Dreams" and "Ok Jaanu" among others.
