Athiya, Sooraj walk IBFW ramp hand-in-hand

IANS, 08 Aug, 2015 12:12 PM
Athiya Shetty and Sooraj Pancholi, who are gearing for their Bollywood debut with "Hero", walked hand-in-hand confidently at internationally acclaimed designer duo Falguni-Shane Peacock's BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2015 show here on Saturday.

Athiya was seen in a black gown with a dash of embellishment on it, while Sooraj wore a black suit with a red pocket square.

On walking the ramp for the first time, Athiya, daughter of seasoned actor Suneil Shetty, said: "I was extremely nervous... We got the energy going but we did the best we could."

Sooraj, who is the son of actor Aditya Pancholi, said: "This was the longest two minutes of my life, but once on the stage I was just fine."

The designer's showcase, 'A French Rendezvous by Peacock Bride', featured voluminous and slim fit floor scraping gowns, dresses, bridal wear, saris, lehengas and sari gowns.

Talking about their collection, Falguni told IANS: "It draws inspiration from French opulence with the ethnic roots of Indian art...from the ancient intricate embellishment techniques of India and fuses it with the graceful silhouettes from the western lands."

There were bling embellishments like rhinestones, crystal, glass sequins and feathers, which added a glam factor to the range.

The designer duo tried to recreate the magic of mid-century Europe by replicating traditional stained glass cathedral of the region on the screen.

The side screens portrayed art creating a sense of a mini France at the show's venue, the DLF Emporio here.

The models, who sported minimal make-up and red lipstick, walked to the tunes of live music.

The ensembles ranged in delicate shades of gold, champagne, salmon pink, light blue, black and red.

The duo, who have also styled Fergie, Nicole Scherzinger, Nikki Minaj, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Shakira and Beyonce Knowles, used fabrics like lace, organza, tulle and pure satin for their creations.

The bridal ensembles featured billowing gowns with embroidery and applique work adorned with fabric flowers and crystals. Layers of fabric like tulle, lace and organza are topped with detailed handwork.

Other names from the Indian fashion fraternity like Tarun Tahiliani, JJ Valaya, Gauri-Nainika, Shantanu-Nikhil, Rina Dhaka, Sulakshana Monga, Suneet Varma and Jyotsna Tiwari will showcase their latest collection at the five-day event.

The five-day gala will end on August 11.
