Big B Credits Audience For 'Piku' Success

Darpan News Desk IANS, 26 May, 2015 02:07 PM
  • Big B Credits Audience For 'Piku' Success
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan is still basking in all the appreciation coming his way for "Piku", but he says that, more than actors, the audience needs "a big round of applause" for accepting the film with open arms.

"Some features of the film seemed to have connected with the audiences all over. Some found their own parents or grandparents in them. Some identified with the daughter. Some others dug deeper into the moral and socio-moral innuendoes, but all in all they found it worthy of taking friends and family with them.

"A big round of applause goes out to the audiences the world over for such patronage. Without them this success or critical analysis would not have taken place," Big B posted on srbachchan.tumblr.com.

Shoojit Sircar's directorial set the box office registers ringing with its simple yet effective story.

"Piku" paints a father-daughter relationship via a journey from Delhi to Kolkata in a car through the scenic and holy city of Varanasi. There is humour, drama and love interwoven in an endearing and relatable tale.

Amitabh plays the role of Deepika Padukone's father in the film. Since the release, the film has collected over Rs.100 crore worldwide.

"So…'PIKU' hits 100 cr and counting! This is quite remarkable. Remarkable for a film of such condition. From the day it started its campaign and its limited publicity, the effect of its durability and standing became widespread and known," he shared.

The 72-year-old lauds the makers for framing the father-daughter relationship on the silver screen.

"I feel happy for the makers and all those involved in the effort, but most of all I feel happy for the content and its acceptability. On release some eminent trade personnel had written the film off and called it a failure and a losing proposition.

"'PIKU' proved them wrong, as have so many other films that had adverse comment. But truly the success of the film has given us an insight into the minds of a most discerning audience," he posted.

Meanwhile, the actor has turned all his focus on his other upcoming projects like "Wazir".
