Censor Board Returns 'Padmavati' To Makers Due To Technical Issues

  • Censor Board Returns 'Padmavati' To Makers Due To Technical Issues
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Padmavati on Friday was sent back to the filmmaker by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) citing technical reasons.

Sources said, "The movie will be reviewed as per set norms once it is sent back to the CBFC after sorting out the issue."

The film has been facing protests from various group for allegedly tampering with historical facts.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had rejected a petition filed against the release of 'Padmavati', saying the CBFC was yet to issue a certificate to the movie.

The top court had added that the CBFC was an independent body and the court should not intervene in their jurisdiction.

Rajput Karni Sena chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi on Friday lashed out at actress Deepika Padukone, who is playing the role of Rani Padmavati onscreen, saying she was not the president of India to roll out orders on the release of the movie 'Padmavati'.

Kalvi told, "Who will tolerate the fact that Rani Padmavati is being shown as the lover of Allauddin Khilji? Deepika Padukone, in her statement, said that the film would be released at any cost. She is not the president of this nation. She is trying to provoke us. I, the founder of Rajput Karni Sena, am saying that this film will not be released."

Earlier in the day, actor and filmmaker Gajendra Chauhan, taking a dig at Bhansali, said, "The makers have not said the movie is based on fiction. They are making the movie with a historical point of view. They have shown Padmavati as a dancer, but she was not a dancer, she was a queen. Kings and Queens never stand up and dance in the courtyard."

Yesterday, reacting to the physical threats that have been issued to the makers, filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar said violence of any kind was condemnable, adding the CBFC should watch the movie and decide if the movie had anything objectionable.

The Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha members also protested against the film in Jaipur and filed signatures with blood to be sent to the CBFC.

The protests turned violent, after acts of vandalism in Rajasthan's Kota were reported on Tuesday.

The Karni Sena activists have upped the ante against 'Padmavati' by staging protests in various parts of the country, covering Bangalore in the South as well.

The period drama, starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, has been facing protests from various groups, including Shri Rajput Karni Sena, is slated to release on December 1.
