“Chak De! India”, a film on the quest of an Indian women's hockey team to overcome obstacles and register a victory internationally, completed eight years of its release on Monday. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who portrayed the coach, has thanked the film's team.

Director Shimit Amin brought the life of ostracised hockey player Mir Ranjan Negi alive on screen with the 2007 film, produced by Yash Raj Films. It features an ensemble cast of actors like Sagarika Ghatge, Chitrashi Rawat, Shilpa Shukla and Vidya Malavade.

"Chak De India. Thanks Shimit, Adi, Sudeep Da, Jaideep, Salim Suleiman, Amitabh and whole crew and most special my beautiful girl”," Shah Rukh tweeted on Monday.

Shilpa also took to Twitter to express her excitement as she shared: "Child like joy as if the film just released on twitter @iamsrk @Chitrashirawat @sagarikaghatge @vidyamalavade2 @mehtashubhi @arya love! love".

Meanwhile, filmmaker Hansal Mehta lauded the film and said that Shah Rukh proved his mettle in the film.

"Eight years of #ChakDeIndia is a reminder to @iamsrk that he is a fine actor and we need to see the actor challenge the star more often," Mehta posted.
