Don't Know Why TV Is Criticised: Ekta Kapoor

Darpan News Desk IANS, 01 Nov, 2015 02:35 PM
  • Don't Know Why TV Is Criticised: Ekta Kapoor
Ekta Kapoor, who has given the small screen a string of trendsetting shows, wonders why content on television is criticised for being "diluted".

"I don't know why television has always been criticised, especially me, for being slightly diluted, homogeneous and definitely not path-breaking or for not discussing issues which are uncomfortable," Ekta said here at the launch of her new show "Pyar Ko Ho Jaane Do".

"We are so scared of getting uncomfortable and we are happy to be in safe zones as far as TV shows are concerned. No channel or production house takes risk to talk about the issues that existed in our society," added Kapoor, who spearheads Balaji Telefilms, which has given the small screen shows like "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi", "Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii" and "Bade Achche Lagte Hain".

"There was a time when 'Kyunki...' was the most popular show in Afghanistan. It changed the thought process of women," she said.

Her new show features seasoned actors Iqbal Khan and Mona Singh as the protagonists.
