Ekta Kapoor to give female twist to 'Devdas'

Darpan News Desk IANS, 25 Nov, 2016 10:47 AM
Filmmaker Ekta Kapoor has got director Ken Ghosh on board to retell the story of "Devdas" with the spotlight on a female protagonist for her premiere digital app ALT Balaji.

The digital series titled "Dev DD" will have a female protagonist with a rock star attitude and solid convictions, read a statement.

"Dev DD" is a female version of "Devdas" set in modern times. It traces the story of young and rebellious Devika, and her journey through life with love, passion, heartbreak, sex, self-destruction and redemption.

Ghosh says the series will challenge the notion of being a "good girl".

"Ekta is the czarina of disruptive content and who better than her to take the digital world by storm. 'Dev DD' is unique in more than one way. It challenges the notion of a 'heroine' and what a 'good girl' is, and has fun while doing it," Ghosh said.

ALT Balaji, which is all set to be launched in 2017, marks Kapoor's foray into the digital domain with her app which will showcase original content. She has also roped in actress Nimrat Kaur to play the lead -- of a combat role in the Indian Army -- in a web series.
