Here's When 'Dangal' Director Nitesh Tiwari Will Make TV Shows

Darpan News Desk IANS, 31 Jul, 2018 01:15 PM
Filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari of "Dangal" fame is also one of the minds behind the emotional campaigns of "Kaun Banega Crorepati" (KBC), hosted by megastar Amitabh Bachchan. But a TV show helmed by him will take some time as he is yet to have his fill of directing feature films.

Tiwari has been associated with KBC for almost a decade. Asked if he would like to move beyond writing and conceptualising campaigns, the filmmaker told IANS in a telephonic interview from Mumbai: "I am currently directing a feature film. Once I have had my share of directing as many feature films as I want to, then maybe I will look at this medium (TV)."

It's all about time on hands.

"I can either direct a feature film or do TV," he shared.

As a filmmaker, he doesn't like to stick to just one genre or subject.

"I have not stuck to any formula. I have written for or directed different feature films. Some were social drama, action, romance and comedy. People like to consume all kinds of films. There is no one particular kind of cinema that people love or hate.

"That is the reason why we have such a wide variety of films and all of them are exciting for viewers as well as for filmmakers."

But he seems to be a fan of children's films as he has directed children-based movies "Chillar Party" and "Bhoothnath Returns". In fact, his next project, starring Sushant Singh Rajput, is a campus film.

Asked if he would like to direct something like "Student of the Year" that had a high dose of glamour, among other things, he replied after a long pause: "Maybe not in the way that it was made but in spirit, yes. The fight and the journey of the protagonists.... My next is also a campus story, but it is done in a different way."

While Sushant has been finalised for the upcoming film, the leading lady's name is yet to be revealed.

"I would like to say that it is still under wraps. Just hang on for sometime. Its shooting will begin from end of September," shared Tiwari.

Meanwhile, he is being lauded for his "relevant" campaign for KBC. In the latest commercial for this season of the show, the struggles of a cab driver have been highlighted.

"There are various obstacles in life that can stop you from achieving what you want. Some are born poor or are not doing well financially. Those are the 'situations' that can stop you from achieving what you want.

"Either you can succumb to the situations and say 'Okay, this is the best I can do in this condition. So, let me give up because unlike others I was not born with a silver spoon'."

The other option is to not give up.

"That becomes motivational. That is exactly what KBC is all about."

He finds it challenging to work on KBC every year.

"If you look at the history of campaigns that we have done, we have always done thought provoking ones. They are always borrowed from the lives of people of the country," he said.

Heaping praise on the show, he said: "This is one platform where the place you belong to, your gender, age or financial status don't matter. If you have knowledge, you have th
