Ila Arun's play shows clash of old, new sensibilities

  • Ila Arun's play shows clash of old, new sensibilities
Actress-singer Ila Arun’s play “Namaste”, staged here, showcases the conflict arising out of the clash between old and new world values, traditions and customs.

The play was staged at Kamani Auditorium here Wednesday. It was presented by FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO), the women's wing of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and industry and MTS India.

Packed with comedy and contemplative twists, the play uses Krishna Janamashtami as a backdrop to discuss sensitive issues without offending sensibilities.

Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi appreciated FLO President Neeta Boochra for promoting creative arts and bringing together a thought-provoking play depicting the value system of the society.

The play is an attempt to highlight "that even during the battle of old world and new world values, one must not lose perspective and the fact that by understanding each other everyone can find a middle path leading to resolution of such conflicts," said Ila.

“For all existence of mankind, there have been conflicting views about existence of god, about culture, values and traditions and this conflict is more prominent today than ever. One often sees that old world values and beliefs find little acceptance from the newer generation.

“This conflict often leads to unwanted scenarios where acceptance of one’s belief matters more than anything else," she added.
