Jagga Jasoos Actor Bidisha Bezbaruah Commits Suicide; Husband Booked

Darpan News Desk IANS, 19 Jul, 2017 12:41 PM
A court here on Wednesday remanded Nisheeth Jha -- the husband of Assamese actress Bidisha Bezbaruah, who allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan earlier this week -- to one-day police custody.

Jha was arrested on charges of abetment of suicide after Bidisha's father, Aswini Kumar Bezbaruah, accused him of having an extra-marital affair.

Bidisha's body was found hanging on Monday evening in a flat at Sushant Apartments in Sector 43 of Gurugram.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (DLF) Harender Singh said that Jha was in Mumbai on work when the deceased took the extreme step.

Police believe the couple earlier had an argument over the phone.

According to ACP Singh, Bidisha had moved into the rented 2-BHK flat at Gurugram's Sushant Apartments on Sunday.

Bidisha's body was discovered by a property dealer, who along with some neighbours, broke into her flat after Nisheeth contacted him saying she was not responding to his phone calls, police said.

"No suicide note was found at the site," a senior police officer told IANS.

Jha was arrested under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (abetment to suicide) and was produced before the court of area magistrate, which remanded him to a day's police custody.

Bidisha had moved to Gurugram last week with Nisheeth and joined an Udyog Vihar-based PR agency here.

Jha hails from Vadodara in Gujarat and works in a private company.

The couple got married on April 28 last year. Bidisha's father said Jha was having an extra-marital affair.

Police said Bidisha had also made an appearance in a recently-released Bollywood movie "Jagga Jasoos" in a dance sequence.

She was well-known in the Assamese TV industry, where she acted in a number of serials and was also a playback singer.

Police on Tuesday handed over her body to her father after the postmortem examination.
