Ludhiana Court Issues Fresh Warrants Against Rakhi Sawant

  • Ludhiana Court Issues Fresh Warrants Against Rakhi Sawant
A court in Ludhiana has issued fresh arrest warrants against controversial actress Rakhi Sawant after she failed to appear before it, court sources said on Tuesday.

Rakhi had been directed by the court to appear before it on August 7 (Monday) but did not come and her lawyer told the court that she was away to the US. He had moved an application for extension of bail which was rejected by the trial court.

The lawyer on Tuesday moved the district and sessions court in Ludhiana seeking extension in her bail.

The trial court had last month cancelled the bail granted to Rakhi, who is facing a case related to objectionable remarks against sage Valmiki, and issued fresh warrants against her.

The bail was granted as Rakhi, wearing a burqa to avoid being detected, appeared before the court and surrendered a day before her hearing. However the court cancelled just the day after and directed that she be produced before it on August 7.

The actress had submitted an "unconditional apology" to the Valmiki community for her earlier remarks made on a TV show last year following which a complaint was filed against her with the Ludhiana police.

The court had issued non-bailable warrants against her in march this year and a Punjab Police team had gone to Mumbai to arrest her. However, it returned empty-handed as she was not found at her given address.
