Making 'Sanam Teri Kasam' was Sunny Deol's idea: Vinay Sapru

  • Making 'Sanam Teri Kasam' was Sunny Deol's idea: Vinay Sapru
Vinay Sapru, one of the directors of 'Sanam Teri Kasam', says actor Sunny Deol wanted him and his direction partner Radhika Rao to make a film for his banner with Bobby Deol, a film which eventually became 'Sanam Teri Kasam'.

"It is so ironical... Sunny sir had actually made us start the film. When 'I Love NY' was about to get over, Sunny sir saw the rushes, called us, and told us that he wanted me and Radhika to direct a film for Vijeta Films. He was of the view that we make good love stories; so he wanted us to make a love story with Bobby," said Sapru in an interview on Friday.

Sunny had acted in their directorial 'I Love NY'. And now their film 'Sanam Teri Kasam' which he had suggested is scheduled to clash at the Box Office with his directorial 'Ghayal Once Again' on February 5.

"But when we started writing, during the process of it, how the characters developed, it got into a particular age group and an environment, so we couldn't take Bobby though he is the most good-looking man in the circuit. And now his film is coming... it's nice, but he's a big star, so hoping that we're saved from his 'adhai kilo ka hath'," he added.

Sapru and Rao were initially planning to make a film based on 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'. But an incident Rao faced in her housing society whereby members locked the terrace as lovers got intimate there "made them think that in a busy city like Mumbai, there is so much time to control lovers".

"This incident became the starting point of our story. We were looking to shoot a love story in Mumbai. It is an honest film which is picked up from an honest incident in and around us," he added.

He terms the film a 'musical', the songs of which are composed by Himesh Reshammiya. The lead pair of Harshwardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane are also gaining popularity.
