Meet The Cashless Bollywood Stars

IANS, 16 Aug, 2019 09:30 PM

Bollywood celebs may be some of the richest people in the country, but when it comes to cash, they are in short supply! Like Janhvi Kapoor, who recently had to borrow money from her driver to give it to a kid who was begging.

“A lot of film stars are asked for money by beggars and want to help out, but they usually do not carry any money with them. Instead of asking their drivers or assistants, they sometimes prefer to scoot off, as in the case of Malaika Arora recently.

Similarly, Ranbir once kept looking around for his Man Friday, while Aryan Khan ruffled the hair of the kid who asked him for money. Salman Khan went a step ahead and actually hugged the kid who was begging, but he had no money to give!” reveals a paparazzo.

Some years ago, Abhishek Bachchan and Goldie Behl — the son of a superstar and a director from a big production family —travelled from the Versova Jetty to Madh Island only to realise that they didn’t have any cash on them once they reached! The man in charge of the collections was forced to let them go because they only had credit and debit cards on them!

Similarly, many years ago, during the monsoons in Mumbai, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who was facing a food crunch at home, recalls going to the JW Marriott Hotel at Juhu for some bread. “They had the bread, but their machine was not working. So they could not accept cards,” said Bhatt.

A film registered itself on its prospective audience better with attractive visuals. That is why we had posters, on walls as well as on poles. We had, what was called six-sheeters: they accounted for six standard 30"x40" wall posters pasted together.
