It was a sheer display of 'unity in diversity' when Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Lata Mangeshkar, Hema Malini and Farhan Akhtar greeted people as various festivals were celebrated across India on Saturday.
 
The day marked the beginning of the nine-day "Navratri" festival. "Gudi Padwa" and “Ugadi” - New Year's Day - for the people of the Deccan region of India were also celebrated. 
 
It was the auspicious occasion of "Cheti Chand" for the Sindhi community and “Navreh" -- the lunar new year which is celebrated in Kashmir and many other parts of the country. It coincides with the first day of "Chaitra" (spring).
