  • Nawaz Sharif, Modi Have Keys To Our Differences: Actor Om Puri
Veteran actor Om Puri says Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif have the keys to unlock differences between the countries.

The thespian, who has worked in Indian as well as Pakistani projects, also shared that he has got so much love from both sides of the border. He yearns to come back to Pakistan every year.

“There are two locks on Pakistan and India sides and the keys to these locks are in the hands of Nawaz Sharif and Modi. Unlocking these will afford people on both sides an opportunity to interact with each other,” Om Puri said.

He shared memories of his film journey at the International Film Festival at the Alhamra Art Center, The Mall here on Friday, reports dawn.com.

The critically acclaimed actor, who entered Indian showbiz in 1975 with “Chor Chor Chhupja”, also narrated his struggle in early life as he said “when he was six his father, who was a railway employee, was put behind bars on allegation of cement theft at the railways store".

“We had to vacate the railway quarter and my mother rented a room. She sent my elder brother to railway station to work as coolie and I was sent to a kiosk to serve tea to customers. If I had a tea shop, I would have been the prime minister of India,” he quipped.

The actor, who is credited for films like “Aakrosh” and “A Wednesday”, says it was his stint at the Indian capital's National School of Drama that not only taught him nuances of acting, but also built his character.
