News Of Kareena Opting Out From 'Veerey Di Wedding' Untrue: Sonam Kapoor

Darpan News Desk IANS, 23 Aug, 2016 01:49 PM
  • News Of Kareena Opting Out From 'Veerey Di Wedding' Untrue: Sonam Kapoor
Actress Sonam Kapoor who will be sharing screen space with Kareena Kapoor Khan in upcoming "Veerey di Wedding" says the news that the latter has opted out from the film is untrue and just gossip.

Criticizing the daily which published the news, Sonam said: "Nobody from the newspaper has contacted us nor they are picking up the phone for clarification. Honestly, this is just a gossip. We are about to start shooting of certain portions of the film. However, most of the film will be shot in April post-delivery. It's completely untrue and irresponsible way of writing news. I didn't expect that."

On Monday, it was reported that Kareena, who is expecting her first child with husband Saif Ali Khan in December, has opted out of the movie due to her pregnancy.

Sonam was addressing the media at an event of the IMC's Ladies' Wing which celebrates its Golden Jubilee this year and presents their much-awaited Women Entrepreneurs' (WE) Exhibition.

"I think in general this has been a patriarchal society, we have a lot of uneven ground for actresses, sportswomen. The women in our society go through obstacles as they are judged the way they look or speak or whether they are pregnant. We are not looked at as strong and capable people. I think it's very very unfair and hope things are going to get better," asserted the "Neerja" actress.

Stressing women are the foundation of the society, she said that empowering women will help to get a better society and better India and cited Indian women's success in the recently-ended Rio Olympics as an example.

"Veerey Di Wedding" is directed by Shashanka Ghosh of "Khoobsurat" fame and also stars Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania.

The film is jointly produced by Rhea Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor.
