No Tears, No Glycerine, Narayani Happy With Negative Role

Darpan News Desk IANS, 21 Apr, 2015 01:40 PM
Narayani Shastri seems rather happy to essay a baddie in her forthcoming show "Piya Rangrezz", in which she plays a role that she describes as a "don". The actress is glad it's not a melodramatic part for which she would either have to cry or use glycerine.

"I am playing a negative character, a woman who is a don. I don't have to cry, I don't have to take glycerine and I am so happy about it,"Narayani told IANS over phone.

Narayani was last seen playing a negative character 10 years ago in the serial "Kkusum...Ek Aam Ladki Ki Kahani."

The 37-year-old feels that negative characters are more real than positive ones.

"The positive characters are like a dream...nobody is so sweet and nice ever that they can sacrifice their life for someone else. But the negatives are more real -- they say what they think and they do what they feel", she added.

Her new show "Piya Rangrezz" is based on the locals of Uttar Pradesh. Narayani would be seen playing Bhanvari Devi, who is considered the godmother of the region.

"I'm playing a woman who is a don. Her husband died at an early age and left a small business of making 'desi daru' (local alcohol). The character is uneducated, she took over the small business and made it into an empire," she said of her character.

For her role, Narayani has picked a 'desi' accent. And she had no trouble over it.

"Fortunately, I had no problems. There are some people who are okay with languages and I am thankfully gifted with that. I can adapt to languages pretty well. Also, my father is from Uttar Pradesh, so somewhere it is in the blood," said Narayani, who will also be seen playing a mother of a grown-up man.

It's not her first time, she said and added that she has "no problems playing any age at all".

"Piya Rangrezz" will be aired on Life OK starting April 27.
