Rumours had it that Ali has been replaced by Tahir Raj Bhasin followed by the ban on Pakistani actors in Indian film. However, Alia's statement clears the air on the issue.

About her character in the film, she said: "Dear Zindegi is the closest to my character, I can relate to the character so much. As recently Sharmila Tagore said that if a bio-pic is in the making on her late husband, the Nawab of Pataudi, Alia can play her role, Alia, taking it as a compliment, said: "The film industry is a family to me. Therefore, when any senior member is appreciating my work, it is overwhelming. I hope, if I will get the opportunity, I will perform it well."
