Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, who starred alongside Bollywood superstar Salman Khan in 2015 blockbuster “Bajrangi Bhaijaan”, says she feels “proud” to be part of the film, which has been chosen for a National Film Award.

Directed by Kabir Khan, “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” was named the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment at the 63rd National Film Awards announcement here on Monday.

“It's one of the greatest films of its time. It spoke a lot about humanity, love, support and integrity. So, I'm very proud to be part of it. It was great working with Kabir (Khan) and Salman (Khan), who actually believed in the script and made it happen,” Kareena said at the press conference of her forthcoming film “Ki & Ka”.

"Bajrangi Bhaijaan" narrates the story of how an Indian man (Salman) discovers love and affection while taking a Pakistani mute girl (Harshaali Malhotra) back to her country.

A National Award honour is an "encouragement" for Salman Khan Films, which stepped into production with the movie.

"Salman Khan Films is delighted to win the National Award and get this recognition from the government of India for our film 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan'. This is our first film under the banner and it is a huge encouragement for us, and for the vision that we have for it," said Amar Butala, COO, Salman Khan Films.
