  • Rajkummar Rao starts shooting for Sourav Ganguly biopic, shares pictures

Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao, who was last seen in ‘Maalik’, has flagged off the shooting for his upcoming film ‘Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story’.

On Wednesday, the actor took to his Instagram, and shared BTS pictures from the sets of the film. The first picture is of the clapperboard from the sets. The second picture is of the Sourav Ganguly stand at the Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata.

He wrote in the caption, “And it begins … The one and only #DADA. @souravganguly @motwayne #LuvRanjan @gargankur82 @luv_films”.

Director-choreographer Farah Khan took to the comments section, and wrote, “All the best raaajjjjj”.

Sourav Ganguly is one of India’s greatest skippers, and the architect of the modern Indian cricket team.

He scored 7,212 runs in 113 Tests and 11,363 runs in 311 ODIs, including 38 international centuries. He made his Test debut at Lord's Cricket Ground in 1996, scoring 131, followed by 136 at Trent Bridge. His 183 against Sri Lanka in the 1999 World Cup remains one of his highest ODI scores. Another key innings was 144 at Brisbane in 2003, helping India compete overseas. As captain, he led India in 49 Tests and 147 ODIs, with notable success in building a competitive overseas team.

He backed players like Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, and Harbhajan Singh, strengthening the squad’s depth. His tenure marked a shift toward aggression and self-belief in Indian cricket, highlighted by India reaching the 2003 World Cup final and winning the NatWest Series Final 2002 at Lord’s. His leadership influenced a more assertive approach that carried into later eras under captains like MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

‘Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story’ is expected to cover his cricketing career, captaincy era, and role in shaping modern Indian cricket.
