Ranbir Kapoor To Play His Grandfather Raj Kapoor In Biopic

Darpan News Desk IANS, 28 Jul, 2016 01:53 PM
Imagine Ranbir Kapoor in his grandfather Raj Kapoor’s “Englishtani” pants and “Japani” shoes. A Deccan Chronicle report said, the 33-year-old actor will be portraying Raj Kapoor in a biopic that will be produced by the family’s banner RK Films.

“It is the Kapoor khandaan’s most cherished dream project. They’ve wanted to make a biopic on Raj saab for the longest time. Until Ranbir became an actor they couldn’t think of anyone who could fit the bill. Now the project is finally gaining shape,” said a source very close to the Kapoor family.

It has always been said that Ranbir has been fascinated with Raj Kapoor’s work for the longest time and knows them inside-out.

Reportedly, Randhir and Rishi Kapoor want to revive the RK Films banner, which has been dormant for years now, with the biopic.

    R. K. Films, a production house named after Ranbir Kapoor’s grandfather Raj Kapoor was founded in 1948 and has it’s headquarters at Chembur, Mumbai. It had a rough start, as its first movie, Aag (1948) did not perform well at the box office.

The last movie of the banner was Aa Ab Laut Chalen in 1999 and now it aims to revive the production house with the dream project of the Kapoor family where the most suitable actor — according to Randhir and Rishi Kapoor — would be no other than the Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor.

“Randhir and Rishi Kapoor would like to revive the banner with a biopic on Raj Kapoor. The brothers are in agreement. They feel Ranbir is the best person to play Raj saab,” revealed a source.
