Sonam Kapoor Breaks Silence:I Was Molested When I Was A Child

Darpan News Desk IANS, 13 Dec, 2016 11:53 AM
  • Sonam Kapoor Breaks Silence:I Was Molested When I Was A Child
Actress Sonam Kapoor made a very personal confession in a special show hosted by film critic Rajeev Masand, a short promo for which was posted on YouTube yesterday.

Sonam, who appears onthe show with four other actresses, discusses having been sexually assaulted when younger.

In conversation with Rajeev Masand during the round-table that included 2016’s strongest performers, Sonam Kapoor said, “I know I have been molested when I was younger. And it was very traumatising.” Sonam is known to be brutally honest and bold with her words.

Known to call a spade a spade, this revelation from the actor will give strength to other survivors to come out in the open. In fact, Vidya said after Sonam’s comment, “It is not her fault and that is the biggest thing a victim deals with.”

Adding to it, Anushka recalls the moment of her childhood when her mother would ask her constantly if she was being touched inappropriately. She expressed at that point of time she would feel silly about her but now it does make sense to her. Radhika said, “I have started questioning morality.” In the end, we see Alia accepted that celebrities live in a bubble. “We really do live in a bubble. Our reality is not reality,” she said.

"I have started questioning morality," says Radhika Apte. Some months ago, intimate scenes from her film Parched were illegally released online. "We live in a bubble. Our reality is not reality," says Alia Bhatt. It's not clear if she is responding to Sonam's statement.

Two years ago, actress Kalki Koechlin went public abot being sexually abused as a child.

"For me, it's not a one day headline, it's something that's a reality I have lived with for a long time. Many of us have gone through it and most of the people that I know, especially close friends of mine who are women, have gone through some form of CSA (child sexual abuse). It's just so out there, so much of it that I think it's not something that should be ignored," Kalki told.
