'The Martian' Estimated To Mint $50 Million Over Weekend

    Filmmaker Ridley Scott's film "The Martian" minted $18 million on its opening day, and it's likely mint an estimated $50 million over the weekend, according to 20th Century Fox Pictures, reports variety.com.
     
    The film released on Friday.
     
    "The Martian" is based on Andy Weir's eponymous 2011 novel and adapted for the screen by Drew Goddard. It's a science fiction entertainer
     
    Featuring actor Matt Damon as a stranded astronaut attempting to survive alone on Mars, the film released in 3,826 locations, and was made on a budget of $109 million.
     
    It also features actors Jessica Chastain, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Jeff Daniels.
     
    “Hotel Transylvania 2,” which topped the box office last weekend with $48.5 million, is expected to incur $28 million for Sony Pictures.
