  • Unprecedented Frenzy Around Broadway Debut In India
The frenzy around the debut of Broadway in India with the timeless classic "Beauty and the Beast", has escalated with an unprecedented sale of tickets. Delighted by the enthusiasm, the show's director Vikranth Pawar says the team is putting their energy to bring alive a “never-seen-before spectacle”.

Being brought to India by Disney India, the live stage musical will first sets its foot in Mumbai later this month, and then travel to Delhi. The sale of tickets has started in Mumbai, and according to organisers, it has been overwhelming -- as many as 12,000 tickets were sold in 12 days.

Pawar, creative head and show director, Live Entertainment, Disney India, is beaming with joy.

“This is for the first time ever that we are locally developing a Broadway-scale musical in India and we have already reached a 12,000 plus tickets mark in just 12 days of opening of the box office.

“We are delighted by the enthusiasm shown by the audiences here and the team is putting together all their energies to deliver a never-seen-before spectacle,” Pawar said in a statement.

The bookings opened on September 18 for Mumbai on Bookmyshow.com.

Marzdi Kalianiwala, vice president, Marketing, Bookmyshow.com, hopes the show will “be a sellout soon”.

“The show has already reached the fastest selling tickets mark in the theatre genre over the past few years and we hope to be a sellout soon,” Kalianiwala said.

Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature film, this classic musical love story will be presented to Indian audiences on the same scale as the mega productions seen on New York's Broadway and in London's West End.

Over 100 of the musical theatre performers will bring the story alive on stage, with the musical developed locally in India, while retaining the original script and music of the Broadway show.

In Mumbai, it will be performed at Dome@NSCI, SVP Stadium, while in Delhi it will be held at Thyagaraj Sports Complex.

The Mumbai show will be held on selective days starting from October 23, and in Delhi from December 18.

The stage will also transform into a magical space with elaborate sets with a village area, Beast’s castle area, royal dining area and balcony to name few.

It also promises to be an immersive show where a select set of audience will get the opportunity to be a part of all the action and experience the magic on swivel chairs.
