Want Our Films To Convey Message: Farhan Akhtar

  • Want Our Films To Convey Message: Farhan Akhtar
Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar says he wants to not only entertain people with his films but also wants his movies to convey a message to the society.

"Other than entertainment, good music, action, when the audiences go home, they should also take something back home.

"It is essential just like a return gift which we should all receive in a party. Our responsibility is definitely towards entertainment, but also to some extent to the subject," Farhan said.

His new production "Bangistan" spreads the message of peace and harmony through a satire on terrorism.

"There are some stories which we write, some are what we have read somewhere or asked a writer to write on, while some stories are ones which writers approach us with. But our basic sensibility is obviously that the film should be entertaining, since we don't want to bore people with our films," he said.

Farhan, however, said it was not possible for all films to have a social message.

"You don't get the opportunity in every film, like in the 'Don' series. But if you get the opportunity, you should try to do something, which might prompt a person to think and which leaves an impression on their minds that 'filmmakers have conveyed a good point, let me think about it'.

"So as filmmakers and producers, a film is after all an art form for mass communication," he said.

Most of the films from Farhan's banner Excel Entertainment have had the theme and importance of friendship, like "Dil Chahta Hai", "Rock On", "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara" and "Fukrey". At the same time, ambition and achievement in "Lakshya" and family emotions in "Dil Dhadakne Do" were also well portrayed.
