WATCH: Chris Martin Sings 'Vande Mataram' With AR Rahman

    Coldplay's frontman Chris Martin ended the Global Citizen Festival India concert on a high note by singing "Vande Mataram" with the music maestro AR Rahman on Saturday evening.
     
    Mr Martin initially had a small tricolour stuck in the back-pocket of his pants which he later put away. Then he grabbed a bigger flag and waved it.
     
    The world-famous band performed for over an hour at the MMRDA grounds in Mumbai. The singer is in the country as part of the Global Citizen India initiative 2016.
     
    The British Rock band performed several memorable songs including Paradise, Viva La Vida, Yellow, Fix You, among others.
     
     
    Mr Martin invited Mr Rahman on stage and both sang "Maa tujhe salaam...Vande maatram". Then Mr Martin waved the Indian flag.
     
    Mr Martin also enthralled everyone with his own version of the song "Channa Mereya" from Karan Johar's film "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil".
     
    During his performance, Mr Martin said to the gathering, "Hamari khushkismati hai ke hum itne khoobsurat desh mein aaye hain (We are lucky that we have come to such a beautiful country)."
     
    Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was present at the gala along with celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Freida Pinto, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Katrina Kaif, Sonakshi Sinha, Parineeti Chopra, Monali Thakur, Arijit Singh, Arjun Rampal and Suzanne Khan.

    We can and we will build a Swachh Bharat -- free of all forms of filth -- within one generation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the 80,000 young attendees of Global Citizen Festival India here on Saturday via video conferencing.
     
     
    "You bring an energy and idealism that is unparalleled," he added.
     
    Modi, who had attended an edition of Global Citizen Festival in 2014 in New York, said: "I know that I stand between you and Coldplay and so will make this brief."
     
    The fest is focused on creating an impact in areas of education, equality and clean water and sanitation.
     
    Apart from the British band Coldplay, the fest also saw performances by international artistes like The Vamps, Jay Z and Demi Lovato.
     
    Among Indian celebrities names like A.R. Rahman, Shah Rukh Khan, Freida Pinto, Ranveer Singh, Monali Thakur and Arijit Singh graced the gala.
