You're Not Actress Material, Swara Bhaskar Was Once Told

IANS, 26 Aug, 2016 11:35 AM
  • You're Not Actress Material, Swara Bhaskar Was Once Told
Actress Swara Bhaskar, who has worked in movies like "Raanjhanaa" and was appreciated for her performance in "Nil Battey Sannata", says she was once told by directors that she isn't "actress material".

Actors often feel the pressure of looking good. Has she felt the same?

"I think all actresses feel the pressure of looking good. Not only actresses... I feel all women in general feel this pressure. As compared to men, women are more judged on the basis of their looks," Swara said in response to a question by IANS on the sidelines of the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) Winter-Festive 2016 here.

"I remember the first year when I came to Mumbai. There were directors who actually said to me that, 'You are not actress material. You are not heroine material.' I remember other people, who said, 'You are too intelligent looking'.

"Once a reporter asked me that, 'Madam please tell that you are not that good looking... So what do you feel about that?',” she shared.

However, Swara, who was here to walk the ramp for brand Whimsical By Shica, does understand that being a part of showbiz, one needs to "look good".

Having said that, she asserted that, "As long as you love your own face, it doesn't matter".

Talking of her personal style, Swara said: "I am completely incapable of dressing or styling myself. I rely a lot on my team - not just my stylist, but also people who do my make-up, as they make us look so good."

On the acting front, the "Tanu Weds Manu" actress will next be seen starring in the upcoming web-series “It's Not That Simple”. The six episode series, which has been shot extensively in Mumbai, revolves around the idea of marriage, relationships, a woman's stand in a marriage, love among others.
