Hispanics Should Produce Own Hollywood Movies: Antonio Banderas

IANS, 18 Jul, 2015 12:35 PM
Hispanic actors should be looking to produce their own movies in Hollywood, according to Spanish international movie star Antonio Banderas.

At a press conference in Marbella on Friday, ahead of the Platino Awards for Ibero-American Cinema, Banderas said Hispanics should build their own studios and produce their own works in Hollywood.

"We have to think of Hollywood as a brand, it is a brand rather than a place. It could be us. We deserve this," he declared.

The actor also capitalised on the attendance of many Latin filmmakers by proposing an agreement between broadcasters to contribute annually to produce quality Spanish-language content.

Banderas will receive the Honorary Platino Award, and he jested that such a recognition was a nice way of saying "you're getting old".

While he showed his appreciation for being recognised by his community, he humbly said that he did not understand why he was being given the honour.
