  • Sharon Stone Shares Basic Instinct Audition Tape. WATCH Her Become A Worldwide Sex Symbol

Sharon Stone on Wednesday shared a clip of her auditioning for her breakthrough film, 1992’s Basic Instinct. In the one-minute clip, Stone is running lines with director Paul Verhoeven, who’s standing in for Michael Douglas.

She pretends taking a drag of a cigarette, and then a sip from her drink, and playfully performs the classic femme fatale character.

She spoke about how she landed the role in a 2014 interview with Oprah. “It was not an easy part to get,” she said. “They offered it to 12 or 13 other women who turned it down. So it wasn’t like I got there and everyone was like, ‘Yay, she’s here!’ It was like, ‘Mm.’ But I knew walking on that set that I was enough.”

The movie was a sleeper hit, and ended up grossing $352 million worldwide. Sharon Stone would go on to reprise her role in a 2006 sequel.
