Arts Club Theatre Company presents Mom’s the Word: Nest ½ Empty

Granville Island Stage06 Jun '19 to 20 Jul '19 @ 7:30 PM - 11:00 PM

From the world-renowned creative team behind the Mom's the Word series comes another chapter in their stories of family and fracas. The kids are grown, marriages have “evolved,” and bodies are backfiring. Life doesn’t get any prettier, but it never strays far from ludicrous or poignant as the moms continue to mine their personal history for every embarrassing detail. From a sold-out run and a hit tour, the moms are back again to share this nestful of insights and ribald humour.

Celebrating the incredible success of the Mom’s the Word series, director Wayne Harrison said, “This group of women changed the theatrical landscape, not just in Canada, but on several continents. Last year alone, productions toured in Scotland, Germany, and Canada.”

First conceived in 1993 by a group of Vancouver actors who had become “exhausted, bedraggled, amateur mothers,” Mom’s the Word became an immediate hit. The first show premiered at the Arts Club in 1995, with the moms sharing their experiences of new parenthood. In 2005, Mom’s the Word 2: Unhinged chronicled the good, the bad, and the ugly of raising teenagers and the moms’ own aging. Then, in 2009, both shows were combined to produce Mom’s the Word: Remixed. In the latest instalment, Mom’s the Word: Nest ½ Empty, the moms recount the trials and tribulations of adult children. Featuring rocky relationships, parenting mishaps, and aquafit crushes, the moms are back and ready to talk about it all. The moms say it best: “We gotta keep going, so we may as well laugh while we can!”
