The Cultch presents Mrs. Krishnan’s Party

Vancity Culture Lab, 1895 Venables St15 Jan '19 to 03 Feb '19 @ 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM

The Cultch is thrilled to present Mrs. Krishnan’s Party, from New Zealand’s internationally acclaimed Indian Ink Theatre Company. From January 15 until February 3, the Vancity Culture Lab will be transformed, and audiences will become party guests—with seating, and standing options to suit their personal party style!

Indians throw crazy parties. Heard of Diwali? A million lamps floating on a river and fireworks to wake the dead. Heard of Holi? An explosion of colour and joy and massive dry cleaning bills. How about Onam? It could be the craziest of them all. From the creators of The Elephant Wrestler (2016 sell-out Cultch hit), comes Mrs. Krishnan’s Party, a spontaneous celebration of one of the great Indian festivals; with food, music, and laughter. An utterly disarming comedy that invites the audience to the party, and seats them around the dining table!

“We aim to make theatre that is beautiful, funny, sad and true” says Jacob Rajan and Justin Lewis of Indian Ink Theatre Company—a company known for blending western theatrical traditions with eastern flavours. “We go to the theatre to be transported by a great story and to enjoy characters that live large in our imaginations.” In Mrs Krishnan’s Party, Mrs. Krishnan is facing change and loss; she is thinking of selling the family corner store. But it’s Onam, a time to celebrate life, death, and rebirth, and unbeknownst to her, her boarder James, an overzealous wannabe DJ, has invited a few friends (the audience) into the back room of the corner store. Mrs. Krishnan has no choice but to throw the party of her life!
