View From A Window explores what it means to be a senior in today’s world

Centre Stage at City Hall10 Oct '19 @ 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM

In partnership with the South Granville Seniors Centre, theatre professional Marnie Perrin facilitated the multi-year Seniors Create Project, engaging older adults in discussions about invisibility in later life and collecting stories from seniors on what life is like in today’s fast-paced, youth-centric culture. The result is this powerful one-act play exploring the myths, realities, and joys of growing older.

In an interview with CBC, 75-year-old Gina Stockdale, workshop co-facilitator, script collaborator, and actor to the project stated, "Everything in the script comes from people's own experiences and their own memories and their own wisdom. You could never write the richness of the material that we've collected. It's an incredible patchwork quilt.”

This vibrant “patchwork” of experiences was crafted into View From A Window performed by senior-aged theatre professionals. Through audience feedback the project team was repeatedly told to bring the show to a wider audience, “Younger people should be seeing this performance, not only seniors!”

View From a Window raises awareness of the social challenges many elders face while sharing the resilience, wisdom, humour and inspiration they have to offer the whole community.

The play is currently on tour throughout the region and is showing in Surrey with the support of the City of Surrey's Cultural Grants Program and Maple Ridge's Community Action Table.
