Pandit Rajan & Sajan Mishra Live in Concert

Anvil Centre,01 Jun '18 @ 7:30 PM - 10:30 PM
Presented by ICMSV - Indian Classical Music Society of Vancouver, the concert is part of the vocal duo's 2017/2018 world tour - 'Bhairav Se Bhairavi Tak'. Artistes include Pandit Rajan & Sajan Misra (Vocal) Vineet Vyas (Tabla) & Sumit Mishra (Harmonium) Saloni Gandhi - Concept and Curator for the World Tour

This journey of ragas commenced from Benares, on November 18th 2017, home to the legendary Hindustani vocalists to Pandit Rajan & Pandit Sajan Mishra, and where they have learnt their music and imbibed the spirit of the city. This tour is officially supported by the Government of India, and ICCR.

The concept of ‘Bhairav Se Bhairavi Tak’ is conceptualized by Saloni Gandhi. The idea is to present the spectrum of morning to evening Ragas (from Raga Bhairav to Raga Bhairavi). The science of notes, for creating ragas according to the time & season, is unique to the world of Indian classical music.

This tour also provides opportunity for vocal workshops with the maestros. The motive behind these workshops is not just about the usual vocal formation but to go deeper in the explanation of aesthetics, expressions and presentation of vocal music. ‘Bhairav Se Bhairavi Tak’ is about reaching out to people around the world, creating a dialogue, and go on a journey of Ragas together.

The inimitable duo of Indian classical music Padmabhushan Pandit Rajan & Sajan Mishra are leading Indian classical vocalists hailing from a distinguished lineage. Their music carries the sound of the most ancient city on the earth - Kashi, and it embraces those ancient sensibilities which are rendered in contemporary settings to reach out to the world. Accompanying on Tabla is Vineet Vyas, a Toronto-based musician who is a disciple of the Tabla legend, the late Pandit Kishan Maharaj. Hailing from a prestigious family of musical torchbearers from Benares, Sumit Mishra will be accompanying on the Harmonium.
