Arts Alive showcases artworks from elementary schools

Burnaby Art Gallery03 May '19 to 09 Jun '19 @ 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Arts Alive is an annual showcase of collaborative student works held in collaboration with the Burnaby School District featured in the Lower Gallery. This year’s 37th edition presents a selection of artworks from elementary schools across the city. Math & Art is this year’s theme to act as inspiration for elementary students.

Transitions showcases artwork created by senior secondary school students in the Burnaby Art Gallery’s Artist Apprenticeship Program, and is featured in the Upper Gallery. This program mentors students interested in pursuing a career in fine arts and invites them to develop and curate an exhibition of their own works.

In this year’s program, participants were asked to consider a theme and to select an inspiration piece from the gallery’s Permanent Art Collection. This exhibition features both their selected work from the collection and their creative responses.

Today, communities across Canada have little knowledge of the role Indians played in World War I and the shared history with their Canadian counterparts. Lest we forget, IMFC plans to commemorate those that lost their lives on the Western Front. To mark the centennial of the landing of Indian Troops in France in September 1914 a series of upcoming free events is planned for this Fall
