AME’s Discovery Day offers fun for the whole family!

Vancouver Convention Centre West21 Jan '18 @ 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
  • AME’s Discovery Day offers fun for the whole family!
Every day in British Columbia, consumers rely on personal items, such as mobile phones, computers and calculators, alongside medical and manufacturing devices, without knowing they are produced from minerals and precious metals found in our province. To highlight the importance of the mining and mineral exploration industry in B.C., the Association for Mineral Exploration (AME) is hosting Discovery Day, a free and interactive family-friendly event, on Sunday, January 21 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West.

This one-day event will give attendees of all ages the opportunity to try their hand at gold panning and even take home real gold flakes! Guests can also explore and learn about the different types of rocks and Ice Age Fossils found throughout B.C. and the Yukon, as well as the importance of the mineral exploration industry to our everyday lives.

To provide an overview and offer insights for your readers on the upcoming event, Yukon Dan, a professional gold panner and Edie Thome, President and CEO of the Association for Mineral Exploration, are available for interviews to discuss the following:
• Fun facts about mineral exploration and gold mining in B.C.
• Q&A on consumer products that use B.C. mined resources.
• What families can expect to learn at Discovery Day.
• Background on AME and the Mineral Exploration Roundup conference.
• Any additional related topics of interest to your readers.

In addition to the above, Geologist Andy Randell is also available to share his collection of rare and beautiful minerals from B.C. and beyond, along with the everyday items they are used to produce, with your readers. Andy is the Executive Director at AME’s Below B.C., a not-for-profit society, which strives to engage the public and enhance their knowledge of geology through community outreach.
