Bike to work week is back at KPU

Kwantlen Polytechnic University24 Oct '16 to 30 Oct '16 @ 12:00 AM - 12:00 AM
It’s back again! The Kwantlen Student Association (KSA) is celebrating Bike to Work Week at KPU from October 24th -30th! This fun, action packed week encourages everyone on campus to consider sustainable forms of transportation.

The KSA is one of 1,000s of other organizations that register to log our commutes and compete for prizes in Metro Vancouver. Anyone wanting to ride on the ‘KSA Riders’ team can join through HUB’s Bike to Work Week portal at bikehub.ca. The KSA Riders have been participating in Bike to Work Week since April 2014 and have biked a total of 2,200 km. During the Spring 2016 Bike to Work Week the KSA Riders came in 3rd in the Team Growth Category. Together our team has prevented a total of 480 kg of greenhouse gasses.

“Sustainability has always been a focus at the KSA, and sustainable transportation has been one of our biggest initiatives with the Multipass Program,” says Cheryse Bonamis, MultiPass Specialist. “Along with the U-Pass BC, KSA services make sustainable transportation convenient - free bike lockers, car sharing with car2go, and the InterCampus Shuttle all support more cycling too” continued Bonamis.

The KSA continues to encourage local governments to continue to develop cycling infrastructure and supports any improvements to active transportation modes around our campuses. “By supporting active transportation, the KSA is proud to do its part getting students using active modes,” says KSA President Alex McGowan. “We need to see local governments doing more to support students in cycling and using other modes of sustainable transportation.”

The KSA has a Winter Cycling workshop at KPU Langley on October 26, 2016 at 12pm, and a wrap up a group ride in Steveston on October 29 to end the week.
